Chile’s President Says Swine Flu Now Under Control The Chilean president met Thursday with her Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inacio “Lula” da Silva, whose government issued a late June recommendation against traveling to Chile. The two leaders now agree that Brazilians wishing to head this way face no real danger. “We think Brazilians can be relaxed and go to our country to enjoy the snow and the other sites that Chile and our people are able to offer our friends,” said Bachelet. The president’s comments came just hours after Chilean health authorities released their latest swine flu statistics. According to the Health Ministry, there have been 11,860 confirmed cases of the illness here. Ninety-six people have now died as a result of the contagion.
